An annual fee is a recurring membership charge billed once per year, separate from regular dues.
What it means
Gyms may advertise a low monthly rate, then add an annual, enhancement, facility, or maintenance-style charge after signup or on a fixed yearly date.
Why it matters
A yearly charge can make the real monthly cost meaningfully higher than the price shown on the signup page.
