Gym fee glossary
Freeze fee
A freeze fee is a charge for pausing a membership instead of fully canceling it.
What it means
Some gyms allow temporary freezes for travel, injury, or schedule changes, but charge a reduced monthly amount or one-time fee during the pause.
Why it matters
Freeze fees are usually conditional, but they can reveal how flexible or restrictive the membership terms are.
How gains.fyi counts it
gains.fyi records freeze fees when listed, but does not count them as required first-year fees unless they are unavoidable for the compared membership.
